Women in Pakistan, regardless of what field they choose to study, often are forced to settle down and leave their careers one they attain what elders call ‘suitable age’ for marriage. Old aunties are often on the lookout for well educated young girls to marry them to their sons – only to then sit at home and not utilize any of the skills and knowledge the girls spent years learning.
Societal pressure makes many women hesitant to pursue the career of their dreams. At times an opportunity leads them away from home, maybe to a distant land. Just the idea of living alone and working is enough to earn a no from their family members.
If you have succumbed to a similar fate, there’s hope for you yet. Unilever Pakistan has taken an initiative to help capable women find work that allows them to work at their convenience. According to Pakistan Bureau of Statistics 3 out of every 5 women bow down due to familial pressures and give up their careers in favor of domestic life.
Unilever’s Career by Choice (CBC) Program aims to be a pathway that allows all such women to reenter the professional world. CBC is a platform which through which they can be employed for various different projects ranging from 6 months to a year, all on very flexible terms.
All the women who decide to participate in this program get the opportunity to update their skill-set, grow their business network, and move to a more permanent position within Unilever if they wish.
Eligibility for Participation
All participants must have at least a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification.
A 2 year experience in their respective field. A career break ranging from 1 to 8 years.
Bachelor’s or equivalent qualification
Project will revolve around 5 key areas
The program allows a great deal of flexibility with work hours and paid leaves.
